Building in Norway

Several Norwegian Standards are available in English for the Norwegian building and engineering industry.

Some of our more popular translated standards are NS 8405.E:2008 Norwegian building and civil engineering contract, NS 8406.E:2009 Simplified Norwegian building and civil engineering contract and NS 8416.E:2009 Simplified Norwegian contract for subcontracts concerning the execution of building and civil engineering works. The standards have been developed for use in contractual relationships in which contractors undertakes to execute building or civil engineering work.

NS 8405:2008 and NS 8406.E:2009 has been developed for use in contractual relationships in which one party (the contractor) undertakes to execute building or civil engineering work (including installations, new buildings, maintenance, repairs and alterations), for the other party (the client), and in which most of the drawings, descriptions and calculations are to be provided by the client.

NS 8416.E:2009 has been developed for use in contractual relationships in which one party (the subcontractor) undertakes to execute a part of building or civil engineering work (including installations, new buildings, maintenance, repairs and alterations), which the other party (the main contractor) has undertaken to the client or another contractor to execute, and in which most of the drawings, descriptions and calculations are to be provided by the main contractor. NS 8416 may be used in cases in which the main contractor has a contract with the client that accords with NS 8405 or NS 8406. It may also be used in cases in which the main contractor has a turnkey contract with the client.
