Norway member of ISO Council

ISO Council is the board of the international standardization organization ISO, and Standards Norway holds the seat for the period 2010-2011.

This means that Standards Norway will hold a seat at the board when we are hosting the general assembly in September 2010.

The composition of ISO Council is divided into four groups based on the size of the member state and the involvement in ISOs standardization work.

Group 1 consists of China, France, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom, and the USA. These countries holds are permanent seat in Council.

Representatives from the other three groups are to be elected for a period of two years. From January 2010 the following member states holds a seat in ISO Council:

Group 2: Canada, Italy, Russian Federation, and South Korea, in addition to Norway.

Group 3: Argentina, Finland, Indonesia, and United Arab Emirates. One more seat is to be filled and the proposed candidates are Malaysia and Ukraine. The election will take place at this year’s general assembly.

Group 4: Jordan and Slovenia. Two more seats are to be filled and the candidates are Barbados, Kazakhstan and Malta.
