This NORSOK standard is intended to fulfil NPD regulations relating to design and outfitting of facilities etc. in the petroleum activities.
The standard gives provisions for offshore structures and references NS 3472 and NS-ENV 1993 1-1. Either code may be used for design of parts, where relevant.
The design principles follow the requirements in ISO 19900.
The standard specifies guidelines and requirements for design and documentation of offshore steel structures.
The standard is applicable to all type of offshore structures made of steel with a specified minimum yield strength less or equal to 500 MPa. For steel with higher characteristic yield strength, see Clause 12.
This revision 2 is mainly an updated version of revision 1, issued in 1998, to take into account the developments, experiences and gained knowledge. All main changes are highlighted with revision marks.
Experience of damages on grouted connections especially on wind mills has shown that the current requirements on grouted connections in NORSOK N-004 Annex K are incomplete and may result in design with less safety margin than intended. Revised recommendations have therefore been developed by EG N and an amendment has been prepared and made available, see below. The changes are only related to Section K.5.3 in Annex A of NORSOK N-004.
The previous issued amendment has been changed due to formula error in equation K5.11 and K5.20.
