The NORSOK standards are developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry to ensure adequate safety, value adding and cost effectiveness for petroleum industry developments and operations. Furthermore, NORSOK standards are as far as possible intended to replace oil company specifications and serve as references in laws and regulations.
The general rule for standardization states that all standards at least every fifth year should be up for systematic review. This is a precaution to make sure that all standards are still valid - and if not, they need to be updated or withdrawn. The following standards are currently subject to systematic review:
