NEK 400:2010 Electrical low voltage installations is a collection of totally 41 separate standards (parts). Viewed in total, the standard series provides minimum safety requirements for electrical low voltage installations. The separate parts therefore must be seen in their proper context. Each part (except for the standards in NEK 400-8 being purely national) is based on corresponding international standards from CENELEC and/or IEC.

NEK 400 provides rules for the design, erection and verification of electrical installations. The rules are intended to provide for the safety of persons, livestock and property against dangers and damage which may arise by reasonable use of electrical installations and to provide for the proper functioning of those installations. NEK 400 applies to the design, erection and verification of electrical installations.

English edition
NEK 400:2010 is a collection of adapted standards consisting of several standards translated from CENELEC and IEC. The English editions have been translated from the Norwegian edition back to English to get a proper English edition with the Norwegian guidelines and adaptations.

If any contradictions between the Norwegian and the English editions exist, the Norwegian edition takes precedence.
