Welcome to the 76th General meeting

This will be the first time a complete IEC General Meeting will take place in Norway. Going 82 years back in history, to 1930, the IEC Plenary Meeting was held in Scandinavia in June/July. About 300 delegates, representing 22 countries took part in the meetings. The Opening Meeting took place in the Town Hall of Copenhagen. The 17 Technical Committee Meetings were held in the buildings of the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm. In Norway, the Council Board Meeting took place in Hotel Bristol, and the Council Meeting took place in the Aula of the University in Oslo. The meetings in Oslo were arranged under the protection of the late King HAAKON VII of Norway.

In 2012 we expect more than 1000 delegates, representing about 70 countries, to take part in the meetings. We have invited 33 TC/SCs to meet in Oslo. Among these are TC 18 and TC 73, were NEK holds the secretariat. We have also invited committees dealing with renewable energy.

The venue for the Advisory and Management Committees will be Oslo Congress Centre. The TC/SC meetings will take place in Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel the same venue as for the 33rd ISO GA hosted by Standards Norway in 2010. The 76th IEC General Meeting in Oslo will be arranged under the protection of His Majesty King HARALD V, the grandson of thelate King HAAKON VII.
