Travel Information

Participants are required to make their own travel arrangements to Oslo and Sandvika, Norway.

In order to act environmentally friendly we recommend you to use public transportation.

Entering Norway

In order to enter Norway, foreign visitors are required to have a valid passport. Nordic visitors and visitors of the Schengen area are exempted from this rule, but as they still have to produce a valid ID, we recommend that they bring their passport.

Visas must be obtained before departure. Applications should be made to the nearest Norwegian Embassy or Consulate or through a travel agent in the country of residence. Please bear in mind that it will take some time to obtain a visa. For more information about visa, see Useful information.

Arriving in Oslo by plane

Oslo Airport is located 47 kilometres north of Oslo and 62 kilometres from Sandvika.

You can take The Airport Express Train (Flytoget) to Sandvika station. Please use trains bound for "Drammen". The ride takes approximately 40 minutes and cost NOK 210. Tickets may be purchased from designated vending machines. It is also possible to pay for the journey by credit card by swiping the card through a card reader before entering the platform. (NOTE: Forgetting to swipe the card can result in a ticket price of NOK 260.) Receipts for payment by credit card can be obtained by registering the credit card at

You can also use local or regional trains trains from the national railway company NSB. This also takes approximately 40 minutes and cost NOK 113 (for pre-purchased tickets). Trains to Sandvika are bound for Skien, Kongsberg or Drammen.

From the station it is a 10 minutes walk to the hotel, outdoors or through the shopping mall, Sandvika Storsenter. Taxi from Sandvika station to the hotel takes less than 5 minutes and cost approximately NOK 130.

It is also possible to use taxi. That cost approximately NOK 950. Passengers should go to the Taxi Information Desk in the Arrival hall.

Arrival by car

From Oslo/westbound: Follow motorway E18 towards Sandvika/Drammen. Exit towards Hønefoss, and follow the signs to “Hotel” and “Info Rama”. You will reach Thon Hotel Oslofjord approximately 200 meters after you have left the motorway.

From Drammen/eastbound: Follow motorway E18 to Sandvika/Oslo. Exit towards Sandvika, and follow signs to “Hotel” and “Info Rama”.

From Hønefoss/southbound: Follow E16 to Sandvika/Oslo/Drammen. Exit towards Sandvika, and Sandvika Storsenter.

The hotel can offer indoor parking for NOK 95 per night, as well as free outdoor parking which is situated on the other side of the road, opposite the hotel. In order to take advantage of the free parking, you must obtain a parking ticket from the front desk to be placed in the front window of your car.

Shuttle bus service

Thon Hotel Oslofjord offers a free shuttle bus from the hotel to different destinations around Sandvika (but not to Oslo center) every Monday to Friday, from 0700 to 0915. Ask at the hotel for more information.
