Transportation

Berlin offers two airports which both are easily accessible with the public transport system.

Schönefeld Airport (SXF)
Schönefeld is situated in the southeast of Berlin, approximately 18 km from the city centre. The airport is connected with the city centre by the S-Bahn (suburban railway) lines S49 and S9 that run every 10 minutes as well as with several AirportExpress trains that run from/to Hauptbahnhof, Zoologischer Garten, Friedrichstraße, Alexanderplatz and Ostbahnhof every half an hour. S45 and S9 need about 45 minutes for the trip to the centre, while the trains take 15 min (from/to Ostbahnhof) to 30 min (from/to Hauptbahnhof), 35 min (from/to Zoologischer Garten). All trains and the S-Bahn stop at the station "Flughafen Berlin-Schönefeld".

For more information, see Schönefeld Airport website

Tegel Airport (TXL)
Tegel is situated in the northwest of Berlin, approximately 8 km from the city centre. You can reach the western city centre from the airport conveniently within 15 minute.
Apart from the buses 109 and 128, the JetExpressBus TXL connects the airport to the main train station Hauptbahnhof. The express bus X9 leaves from the train station Zoologischer Garten. The express buses stop only at the main bus stops and are therefore a quick connection. At the airport, bus stops are located right outside Terminal A and B.

For more information, see Tegel Airport website.

Taxis
Should you wish to take a taxi from Schönefeld Airport, the taxi ranks can be found right outside Terminal A. Passengers requiring a special taxi, e.g. for the disabled or a maxi cab, should ask a local taxi driver or the service staff (recognisable by the "Taxi Service" on their uniforms) outside the airport for assistance. The taxi ranks at Tegel Airport can be found in the inner ring of Terminal A at Gates 6–9 and outside Terminal C and E.

Please make sure you only use clearly marked taxis parked at the designated ranks. There is the risk that bogus taxi drivers may be operating outside of these areas.

Standard fares apply to all Berlin taxi drivers. In addition to distance-based fares, the following surcharges may apply:

- €1.50 per person in maxi cabs seating five or more
- €1 for bulky items of luggage
- €1.50 for non-cash payments, e.g. by EC or credit card
- €0.50 for a single journey from Berlin Tegel Airport
