Polyvinyl butyral is a specialty resin used primarily as a raw material for laminated safety glass sheet. Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) is a special tough and resilient material which is sandwiched between two layers of glass and then permanently bonded using high temperatures and pressure.
Polyvinylbutyral (PVB) is a product of reaction between polyvinyl alcohol and butyl aldehyde. besides acetal links (65-78%) it contains also vinyl alcohol links (19-32%) and vinyl acetate links (up to 3%), which are not shown in the formula. PVB is white powder without impurities. It is weather- and lightproof, highly adhesive and mechanically strong, dissolves in various organic solvents, transparent.
